You know it. In Flames are back with their twelfth studio effort entitled “Battles”.
Many fans of the band were utterly disappointed by their previous record “Siren Charms” and the radical change of the band’s sound that came with it. “Battles” seems to be one of the most anticipated records of 2016 and now we’re here to tell you what you can expect from it.
How does the greatest battle of In Flames sound like? Stick with us to find out more!
“Drained” is the first thing you’re gonna hear on the record and it’s indeed a very convincing opener which won’t leave you cold at all. In Flames bring another blast of energy with them on this record. That’s for sure. The thing coming at you next is the first single called “The End” and here you can expect quite a catchy chorus. So far, “Battles” seems to be musically closer to the band’s 2011 release “Sounds Of A Playground Fading”, but more modern in a way.
“Like Sand” follows, armed with a strong chorus and lyrics one can relate to. It’s probably the first highlight on “Battles”. Talking about highlights, we shouldn’t forget about “The Truth”, which indeed hyped us for this record the most. Just take a listen to it.
Let’s move to “In My Room” aka track number five. Well, there’s nothing all too surprising waiting for you. You get everything you’re used to from In Flames. A cool guitar solo included.
“Before I Fall” will probably remind you of something from “Sounds Of A Playground Fading”, which ain’t a bad thing at all! Same deal with “Through My Eyes”.
With “Battles” – the song – we come to another bunch of highlights from this album. “Battles” was the first song to hook me when hearing the record for the first time and I think it’s one of the most untypical songs of In Flames to date. And if you’d like to hear the most beautiful song In Flames have ever done… Well, look no further! It’s “Here Until Forever” and your jaws will drop.
Trust us on that!
What else does “Battles” offer? It’s “Underneath My Skin”, which fulfills its position as some kind of a transition between the previous song and “Wallflower” – another song that will blow your mind. Just listen for yourself!
“Battles” comes to an end together with “Save Me” which comes around almost like a friendly punch to your face, presenting a glorious finale of the record.
Afterwards you can enjoy two bonus songs (“Greatest Greed” and “Us Against The World”), but we don’t give a damn about bonus tracks!
No, we’re joking, we do give a damn about bonus tracks and the only thing we’re gonna tell you about them is that they’re pretty sick. End of line.
What happens when you mix “Sounds Of A Playground Fading” and “Siren Charms”? “Battles” happen.
In Flames are one great example of how a band’s sound should develop throughout the years and I don’t really see why there are still people who want their old style back.
Every track you can find on this album stands out in its own way and every track will hook you somehow. The album stays true to what In Flames is all about but in an experimental manner. “Battles” is a great album and everything that seemed to be missing in their previous record is here now. Appreciate it.
